Ph.D. Students

I am looking for a few self-motivated Ph.D. students to join my research team. Applicants should have a B.S. or M.S. in Transportation Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics, Computer Science, Urban Studies, Management Science, Economics or related fields. Strong oral and written communication skills in English are required. Candidates with research experience in transportation engineering, machine learning, optimization and game theory are preferred.

Successful applicants will be considered eligible to receive a Postgraduate Scholarship (the 2025 rate: HK$19,135/month) during the normative study period. Outstanding applicants holding “1st Class Honours” from a top university in their countries (such as C9 in Mainland China) are strongly encouraged to apply for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship scheme (HKPFS) and the Presidential Fellowship of the University of Hong Kong (HKU-PS), which offer an annual stipend of HK$28,400/month plus a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$14,200/year. HKU will provide HKPF and HKU-PS awardees additional living allowance (HK$20-40k/year) and accommodation support. Postdoctoral Fellows

I am seeking a few candidates to join my team as Postdoctoral Fellows. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Transport Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Urban Studies or related fields, with a strong track record in the following: refereed publications in transport, artificial intelligence, operations research, urban studies/planning; advanced skills in transport simulations, machine learning, and optimization; as well as experience in managing competitive research grants.

Applicants should also have the ability to manage own academic research and meet defined milestones on time with an understanding of transportation simulations and optimizations. The appointee will participate in the R&D projects of our team. The appointee is expected to have strong programming skills (e.g., Python and JavaScript) and good knowledge of optimization and AI methods. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview.

Outstanding candidates are strongly encouraged to apply for the RGC Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme (PDFS). Awardees of this scheme will receive an annual stipend of HK$406,550 per year for 3 years for the awardee’s basic salary as well as a conference and research-related travel allowance (of HK$12,920 per year inclusively).

Research Assistants

A few full-time and part-time research assistants positions are available at my lab, starting from now until the position is filled up. In particular, strong candidates (e.g., top bachelor students from C9 universities) who are willing to apply for my Ph.D. in the next year are encouraged to work in my lab as a Research Assistant for a couple of months before the Ph.D. application.
